About Wegovy Oral
Wegovy Oral contains semaglutide as a tablet taken once a day. It is a prescription-only medicine.
Tablets are taken following the instructions in the patient information leaflet supplied with the medicine, which is the authoritative source for how and when to take them.
Whether this medicine is prescribed, at what strength, and whether a strength is increased are decisions a prescriber makes after reading your consultation and reviewing your progress.
Strengths and prices
Wegovy Oral is priced per month. One unit is one month of tablets, which covers 28 days.
Treatment starts at the lowest strength and is reviewed before any increase.
| Step | Strength | Price per month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.5 mgstarting strength | £92 |
| 2 | 4 mg | £104 |
| 3 | 9 mg | £119 |
| 4 | 25 mg | £164 |
One month of tablets. Prices include VAT. Delivery is £4.99 per order. A strength is prescribed, and increased, only where a prescriber judges it appropriate; the ladder above is the order strengths are worked through, not a list to choose from.
Whether it is suitable for you
Wegovy Oral is not suitable for everyone, and it is not appropriate for some people at any strength. Your prescriber checks your medical and family history, the medicines you already take, and whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, before deciding. Where treatment is declined, the reason is explained.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy in the next two months.
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or MEN 2.
- Current or previous pancreatitis.
- An eating disorder now or in the past.
- A BMI below the threshold for your background, with no weight-related condition.
The full list of side effects, warnings and reasons a medicine must not be taken is in the Summary of Product Characteristics and the patient information leaflet supplied with it, both published on the electronic medicines compendium. Read the leaflet before taking any medicine, and report a suspected side effect to us and through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme — how to report one.
If you feel unwell while taking it, do not wait for us: call 111, or 999 in an emergency. What to do out of hours lists the symptoms that should be acted on the same day.
Common questions
- Can I ask to be prescribed Wegovy Oral?
- You can say what you are interested in during the consultation. Which medicine is prescribed, at what strength, and whether it is prescribed at all are decisions the prescriber makes after reading your answers.
- How are the strengths decided?
- A course begins at 1.5 mg and is reviewed before any increase. Some people remain on a lower strength. Increases are not automatic and are not requested by the patient.
- What does the price cover?
- £92 per month at the lowest strength, including VAT and the clinical review. Delivery is £4.99 per order. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
